Resilience in the Face of Failure

With Match Day coming up, it’s essential to pen a few thoughts. It is relatively easy to give into being defined by the Match outcome if you’re a medical student/senior/IMG physician.

It can be traumatizing not to obtain a spot. All the same, some find relief with SOAP applications. Then, some apply for the next cycle. While success may take time, it can never elude you for long. If you are not in a position to participate in SOAP, perhaps a sit down with someone to review your application is a great idea. The first few days are never easy, and thoughts of self-doubt and impostor syndrome can cloud your judgment and decisions. Take some time off and regroup once time heals the bruises, albeit partially. Focus on the weaknesses in your application and take steps to correct them before the next cycle. It is never easy to bounce back, but then those who make the transition quicker stand to gain quite a bit.
