During the SOAP process, your personal statement needs to be especially compelling because:

  • Programs are reviewing applications very quickly.

  • You're competing with many other qualified candidates.

  • You need to stand out in a time-pressured environment.

  • Programs want to understand why you weren't matched initially and what makes you a strong candidate despite this.

The personal statement can be particularly critical for IMGs, students with academic challenges/gaps in CV, career changers or unique circumstances.
